Details

The Alpine Trail is a 29” wheeled full suspension bike built for the all day enduro rider that earns their downhill fun.

Alpine Trail Carbon 1 and 2 models feature high modulus carbon fiber and monocoque construction to deliver the strongest and stiffest Alpine Trail to date.

Alpine Trail models feature Series 4 aluminum frames, with detailed forgings, highly manipulated tubes, and full internal cable routing, giving the rider the highest-end alloy frame that Marin offers.

The heart of the Alpine Trail’s MultiTrac suspension is the forged one-piece rocker link. The strength and stiffness of the rocker keeps the rear of the bike tracking straight, providing smooth suspension operation under the most demanding conditions.

The stiffness of the one-piece rocker link allows for a bridgeless seatstay design, offering zero compromises on stiffness while at the same time allowing for maximum tire clearance and short chainstays.

The Alpine Trail has a slack 63.5º head tube angle paired with a steep 78º seat tube angle and long reach to provide the best modern trail bike experience. The bike lets you climb better than ever before, while giving you even more confidence when descending.

Freeborn’s Take

The Marin Alpine Trail Carbon 2 is bang up to date with all the long, slack and steep things you are looking for. The spec has all the parts you need and none of the ones you don’t. Coming in cheaper than pretty much all of its competitors, this really is a special bike.

The carbon fibre front triangle is bolted to an alloy rear triangle using with sealed cartridge bearings and alloy hardware. There is room for a water bottle on the down tube and a tool tidy on the underside of the top tube. Internal cable routing throughout keeps things tidy. A down tube protector and a rather fun chainstay protector help to keep your paint where it should be.

Sat at the edge or modern geometry the Alpine Trail has a 78 degree seat tube angle keeping you centered in the bike for climbing and a 63.5 degree head angle charging on the way back down.

The 150mm of progressive rear wheel travel is delivered using a linkage driven single pivot design. With external rebound damping adjustment and a 3 position climb switch the Fox DPX2 rear shock keeps things under control.

One of the spec highlights has to be the 160mm Grip 2 equipped Fox 38 Performance Elite. If any fork going to stop going out the front door, it’s this one.

The 12 speed drivetrain is a mix with an SLX shifter and 10-51 SLX cassette. An XT Rear mech keeps the KMC chain shifting smoothly and a 32 tooth FSA Gradient crankset and bottom bracket will keep your pedals where should be. This solid drivetrain keeps to the bikes mantra of everything you need and nothing you don’t.

Shimano SLX 4 piston brakes fitted with a 230mm front rotor and 180mm rotor are great scrubbing off speeds and skids.

Shimano Centre lock hubs front and rear are laced to Marin 29mm tubeless compatible rims. These are kept off the floor with a great pair of Maxxis Assegai tyres on both ends. Double down rear and Exo plus front.

A RaceFace Affect 780mm handle bar and 50mm stem give a study place to put the surprisingly comfy Marin lock on grips.

The X-fusion Manic dropper post fitted has size specific drop. Small has 125mm, medium and large 150mm and XL 170mm. The dropper is controlled by a tidy Shimano remote lever which like the gear shifter mounts straight onto the brake lever.

Marin’s Trail Speed Pro saddle has soft yet supportive padding.
