John’s new Moment Mk3
John “jesus” Holme is one of the hardest working members of the Esher Shore trail crew, and also a very passionate rider
After a recent trip to Winterberg bike park in Germany, John felt the need for a different bike with active suspension for the braking bumps (he is off to France in a week), and we spent some time looking at the various options before I strongly recommended Ellsworth’s new Moment Mk3 frameset
The MK3 is unusual in that its got very plush suspension that pedals like an XC bike, and has the ability to allow the rider to totally slam the saddle down low for riding stunts, yet extend the seatpost to the proper pedalling height for trail riding
I built John a trick set of Stan’s ZTR Flow rims on blue Hope Pro II hubs with Stan’s No-Tubes running in Specialized Control Eskar tires, and we swapped alot of kit off his old bike including a Rockshox Lyric Coil U-Turn that had just been serviced and “tweaked” by TF Tuned, Avid Juicy 7 disc brakes, SRAM X-9 shifting with Shimano SLX crankset and E13 STS chain device, Thomson / WTB finishing kit and some other choice parts
His Mk3 looks amazing, very stealthy and rides so sweet…John’s first ride was at the 2009 Shore Showdown at the Esher Shore bike park, and he was blown away by the light weight (30lb), responsiveness and sheer acceleration, let’s just say he had a few “sticky” moments getting used to the Mk3
in his own words, “It’s sick bruv….”
